There are many passages which speak of the sun and moon after the new heavens and new earth are created. Whether spoken of negatively that is it’s no longer needed or positively they still exist. The sun and the moon can also be referred to as signs and seasons, days and years, morning and night etc. In the old world in the bible the sun and moon were commonly known then to be used as time and also seasons. When the sun and the moon were created they were being referred to as the greater and lesser light.

The purpose of the sun and moon were clearly stated in the book of Genesis that they are to give light on earth, also to separate the daylight from darkness. They also show the importance of season and signs to human. God has created everything with purpose, the sun and the moon were not left out either.

1. Joel 2:31

The sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes.

 

2. Revelation 6:12

When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood.

 

3. Matthew 24:29

Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

 

4. Isaiah 30:26

7.  Numbers 28:11-15

At the beginnings of your months, you shall offer a burnt offering to the Lord: two bulls from the herd, one ram, seven male lambs a year old without blemish; also three tenths of an ephah of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, for each bull, and two tenths of fine flour for a grain offering, mixed with oil, for the one ram; and a tenth of fine flour mixed with oil as a grain offering for every lamb; for a burnt offering with a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord. Their drink offerings shall be half a hin of wine for a bull, a third of a hin for a ram, and a quarter of a hin for a lamb. This is the burnt offering of each month throughout the months of the year. Also one male goat for a sin offering to the Lord; it shall be offered besides the regular burnt offering and its drink offering.
