As Christians, temptations from the devil is inevitable. As Christians we are always tempted with what we love the most. Our lord Jesus Christ is a perfect example of how after He had fasted for 40 days and 40 nights, and it was recorded that He was hungry, we learnt that Jesus was tempted with food by the devil and also with material things. Jesus was able to overcome the devil’s temptations and we saw that He was rewarded.

We face many challenges as Christians but the most important thing is we shouldn’t allow our challenges determine our faith. One of the reasons the bible told us to hold unto our faith is because we wouldn’t be easily shaken once we build our faith on Christ the solid rock in whom nothing can shake or move us. Twenty bible verses have been collected to help us understand how we can overcome temptations.

1. 1 Corinthians 10:13

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

2. James 1:12-16

Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him. Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers.

3. Matthew 4:1-8

4. 1 Corinthians 6:18-20

Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. 5. Romans 6:12-14

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.

And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life lame than with two feet to be thrown into hell. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into hell.
