Today we will be dealing with 20 Bible verses about vanity. Cut the chase. Let’s face reality. Nothing in life is sure. Nothing in life lasts forever. King Solomon despite being the richest man on earth, having enjoyed all the wild pleasures of the world, still stated that life is vanity. When you chase things in life and you lose your soul, what’s your gain?

Beyond the pleasures and attraction of the world, there is a life after death. And what will be the gain of a man? The scripture warned us in the book of Matthew 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Everything that we chase that has hindered us from setting our gaze on things above will be added to us. All we need to do is set our gaze on the things on high and all other things will be added. Do not forget your creator. Every other thing will perish. When you die, you leave everything behind including your wealth and family. Who will take care of the things you worked for all your life?

Why not work more on your eternity? why not invest more into seeking the Kingdom of heaven and its righteousness? The people that truly understand that life is vanity don’t struggle to get the things of life. You also need to understand that life is vanity.

1. Ecclesiastes 4:4-8

I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind. What the eyes see is better than what the soul desires. This too is futility and a striving after wind. Whatever exists has already been named, and it is known what man is; for he cannot dispute with him who is stronger than he is. For there are many words which increase futility. What then is the advantage to a man?

 

4. Ecclesiastes 11:8-10

Indeed, if a man should live many years, let him rejoice in them all, and let him remember the days of darkness, for they will be many. Everything that is to come will be futility. Rejoice, young man, during your childhood, and let your heart be pleasant during the days of young manhood. And follow the impulses of your heart and the desires of your eyes. Yet know that God will bring you to judgment for all these things. So, remove grief and anger from your heart and put away pain from your body, because childhood and the prime of life are fleeting.

 

5. Ephesians 4:17-19

So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart; and they, having become callous, have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice of every kind of impurity with greediness.

 

6. Deuteronomy 32:45-47

When Moses had finished speaking all these words to all Israel, he said to them, “Take to your heart all the words with which I am warning you today, which you shall command your sons to observe carefully, even all the words of this law. “For it is not an idle word for you; indeed it is your life And by this word you will prolong your days in the land, which you are about to cross the Jordan to possess.

All that my eyes desired I did not refuse them I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor.
