Today we will be dealing with bible verses about walking away from family. A family is a distinctive unit of our life. While we may not have much choice in choosing our family, the bond we share with them can make and unmake us. If you are fortunate to have a family whose bond strengthens you to become better in life, stay with your family. However, if otherwise, your best bet might be to walk away from family just like Abraham did.

God knew Abraham can’t continue to reside with his family and still become who God has destined him to become. So, the first thing God told Abraham was to walk away from his family. Genesis 12:1 Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee.

One thing is certain from the story of Abraham walking away from family. Faith is valid in ensuring God fulfills His promises. When Abraham was told to leave his family, God didn’t show Abraham or gave him a substitute. The instruction was for him to walk away first to a land God will show him. So at the time, he was leaving his family, he completely had no idea of where he was heading. But he still took the step of faith.

If Abraham had hesitated, he would not have been able to manifest in the capacity God wants him. Similarly, some of us need to walk away from family to establish the covenant of God over our lives. This doesn’t mean us neglecting our families or forsaking them. It just means sometimes our blessing is in a foreign land. Joseph also left his family. He went as far into the land of Egypt to fulfill his purpose and in the end, he was reunited with his family.

Is God telling you to move away from your kindred? are you reluctant to obey the instructions of God? we have compiled a series of bible verses about walking away from family.

For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household. Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

5. Exodus 21:7-11

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. If she does not please her master, who has designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. By this we may know that we are in him.

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

12. Matthew 18:6
