The goal of a Christian is to know God and worship Him. It is easy to get distracted and forget the goal you were trying to achieve. At all times we need to be focused and not get sidetracked so as to achieve our goal. One of the goal of a Christian life is to know Christ and to be like Him. To know Christ as an adult, you must try follow His commandments.

Being a Christian as an adult is a growing relationship with the supreme God who has showed Himself through the Lord Jesus Christ
When starting a relationship it begins with a meeting or introduction. You need to acknowledge Him first as your Lord and savior. After accepting Him, then you begin a personal relationship with Him. And because of that decision your life will definitely take a new direction that it never would have taken if you had not met.
Your relationship to the Lord Jesus may be different from how your friend met Him, it might be that you may have met Christ as a young child, born and brought up in a Christian home, or a traumatic situation might have brought you close to Him.
