Today we will be dealing with 20 bible verses about self control. Self control is an important aspect of our Christian journey. Having self control is key to having a successful life as a lover of God. Jesus Christ is our perfect example. He held himself back many times from going against God’s will. He made sure He handled whatever was too difficult for Him over to God.

We should know that we are not on earth alone that’s why the holy spirit is here with us to help us have self control and not do what is against God’s commandments which can cost us our lives and make us fall short of God’s kingdom and glory.


Self control is the ability to resist going against God’s will as Christians. The bible says in all ways we should resist the the devil. If we can’t resist temptations ourselves lets ask God for help and He will definitely help us. Twenty bible verses have been collected about the importance of self control and how we can have it as Christians.

 

1. Proverbs 25:28

A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.

 

2. 2 Peter 1:5-7

For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins.

 

3. 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. So I do not run aimlessly; I do not box as one beating the air. But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
